Giuliano and Giusy Marelli: fifty years of creativity in the world of knitwear

For over fifty years, Giuliano and Giusy Marelli have been a design duo renowned for their excellence, research and constant innovation in the field of knitwear and textile design.

Throughout their career, they have worked as creative consultants for leading Italian and international yarn manufacturers, overseeing the design and production of seasonal collections that have helped shape industry trends. Among their most prestigious collaborations are Yves Saint Laurent and Lanvin Uomo, Anne Claire, Gruppo Finanziario Tessile and Imec.

At the invitation of the Coats Group, in the 1970s they conceived and founded ‘Punto, Centro Orientamento Moda’ (Punto, Fashion Guidance Centre), an innovative creative workshop dedicated to exploration and experimentation in the world of textiles.

At the same time, they collaborated with leading women’s and specialist magazines, creating designs for editorial features published in all publications dedicated to knitting and crochet. Each year, their creations have provided almost two thousand pages of inspiration for generations of keen knitters. During those same years, they also began collaborating on the major collectible works of Fabbri, one of Italy’s leading publishers.

Alongside their consultancy and design work, the Marellis have made a significant contribution to research into yarns and colour, creating new colour palettes and developing original stitches and patterns. They are the authors of two books that bring together their technical expertise: “Cento nuovi punti a maglia” (One hundred new knitted items)  and “Cento jacquard da tutto il mondo” (One hundred jacquards from around the world).

In 1992, they opened their Atelier in Milan, a space dedicated to training and creativity, where they still enthusiastically welcome knitting and crochet enthusiasts of all levels.

For more than ten years, they taught Knitwear Design at the Politecnico di Milano as part of the Fashion Design degree programme, helping to nurture new generations of designers and passing on their in-depth knowledge and passion for the art of knitwear.

Today, just as in the past, with a huge following on their social media channels boasting over 39,000 followers, Giuliano and Giusy Marelli continue to be a leading figure in the world of knitwear design, combining tradition, innovation and a creative vision that has been inspiring the fashion world for over fifty years.
